There are a variety of household appliances that stray from those common to most homes. These items are often considered novelty items, even though they have a specific use. These items are often ordered from catalogs.

An electric wine bottle opener, for example, would probably not show up on a list of common household appliances. However, many people purchase these items because they are convenient and lend in air of technological sophistication. Items like this are very popular with the “gadget” crowd.

Advanced technology has altered many traditional household appliances. Self-operating vacuum cleaners are becoming more popular thanks to robotic technology. Many people believe that the future holds a vast array of such devices.
